Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Port St Lucie

Brazilian Vale Tudo Academy offers BJJ for those that want to compete. But we also offer Gracie Style of Jiu Jitsu that trains others in real live Self Defense scenarios. What you use for sport jiu-jitsu will not always work in a street fight because in sport Brazilian Jiu Jitsu you are not allowed to punch, kick, head butt and so on. So practicing for the sport will only be effective when those rules are in place. Now, for those that would like to defend themselves in real life scenarios, that is where Gracie Jiu Jitsu comes in. It guides you through the techniques that are going to help you dominate the fight in the streets if it ever comes your way. Out Intro classes for Kids and Adults focus on the Self Defense aspect of these martial arts to guarantee as much as possible, your safety.

If you choose to compete you can move through our ranks and classes to join our World Class Competition Team with world class instruction that unites us like a family and stay away from politics.

Mixed Martial Arts Styles We Teach

At Brazilian Vale Tudo Academy in PSL, Florida we teach Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Russian Sambo, Wrestling and Boxing. The Main core of our grappling system is BJJ or Gracie Jiu Jitsu and Sambo. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or Gracie Jiu Jitsu is a grappling art that was popularized in America by the legendary Gracie family in 1993 when Royce Gracie started to fight in the UFC. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Port Saint Lucie concentrates on dominating your opponent by using leverage, and superior body positioning to control an opponent’s body movement. A person that has a better position is in a better situation to apply a finishing hold or pin your opponet down. This style was developed for a smaller person to defeat a much larger attacker. Now If you are a larger person you can also use Brazilian Jiu Jitsu for your advantage. Because now you will have strength, size and technique. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or BJJ is an excellent form of self defense for women who are often taken to the ground during assaults. We recommend this style for men, women, and children looking for a great workout and realistic self-defense. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or BJJ is similar to the Olympic Sport of Judo. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was taught to Carlos Gracie and Helio Gracie by Mitsuyo Maeda a Kodokan Judo Black Belt. We believe that it is not only important to control our opponent on the ground, but also on our feet. Here at BVT you will learn Judo throws on your BJJ classe to make you better both on the ground and on your feet.

A Little Advice

If you're a beginner to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu I must warn you about a few things. You should know that not all schools are created equal and it is very important that you make an educated decision before picking a school.

Due to the overwhelming popularity of the UFC and other Mixed Martial Arts events, everyone and their brother is re-labeling their schools as "MMA" or "Grappling" schools. As an experiment, go into last year's phone book and see how many Karate schools have become "Mixed Martial Arts" schools. My point is: You have to be selective when choosing a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school.

In fact, you should NEVER join a school or BJJ program unless it meets ALL these FIVE fine points:

1. Their instructors are qualified.  What are the instructors' credentials? Have they competed? What is the reputation of the organization that they represent i.e. do they "sell" belts? Remember, if you want to be the best you have to learn from the best.

2. The school MUST have a written curriculum? You’ll be shocked to know how many schools don’t follow a step-by-step program so neither the teacher nor the student knows where they are going and how far along they are.  Surprising but true.

3. The school must produce winners. Ask yourself, has this school produced any State or national champs or winning teams?

4. The school should adapt itself to the client's needs. Whether you want to be physically fit, learn self defense, or train for the World Championships, the school should allow you to set your own goals and help you achieve them.  You don’t want to be forced into any sparring if you don’t want to!

5. The prices are NOT unbelievably low. Remember that you usually get what you pay for.  Would you trust a jeweler who offers you a Rolex at Timex prices?  These “bargain” schools usually have dirty facilities, unqualified instructors or instructors who cannot speak English, and don’t offer an advanced program.
